Amidst heavy backlash after Texas restaurant chain Whataburger announced that it has sold controlling interest to a group of investors in Chicago, the Texas state legislature has made the investors a new offer of lesser importance, the Alamo.

“There are Texas icons, and there are Texas icons,” said state senator Gunner Kinsella. “We can live without a Texan owning the Alamo, but we need to know Whataburger is ours.”

If the investors accept, Gov. Greg Abbott is expected to approve the proposal.
