Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders has ended his bid for the Democratic nomination for president, paving the way for young insurgent candidate Joseph Biden to grab the nomination.

Sanders said in his announcement video that it’s important to pave the way for the next generation of leaders, and Biden – the younger statesman – will inspire hope for the next generation of leaders.

“Joe Biden brought a youthful voice to this race,” Sanders said. “I think him representing a generation younger than mine can defeat Donald Trump this November.”

Biden said in a statement that he’s “thankful for Bernard’s support and with his and Corn Pop’s help one day we can win the chili cook off let me tell you.”
