Despite recent success in the 2018 midterms and the 2016 presidential elections, 26-year-old Andrew Hoover’s April municipal election “I voted” Instagram post only solicited 23 likes, well short of the 85 and 112 he achieved in the 2018 and 2016 elections, respectively.

“I didn’t see this coming,” said Hoover, who snapped a photo with his girlfriend shortly after they voted for township supervisor. “I really thought this was the kind of content that would take off. Kind of makes you wonder what it was all for.”

As of midday Tuesday, “I voted” Instagram likes were reportedly down dramatically from November 2018 photos of the same nature. Posts captioned “did my civic duty” performed slightly better, but were still far from the 2018 “saving our democracy” posts.
