Despite Democratic lawmakers’ best efforts, legislation that would have moved the minimum voting age down to 7 years old was defeated Thursday after strong pressure from the toddler lobby, who wanted the age pushed down to 3 and would not compromise.

“‘Big toddler’s influence was undeniable,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said. “Our members feared them, and they’re a cranky bunch – especially without a nap.”

Toddler political action committees and toddler-sympathetic political action committees celebrated the victory, with numerous mommies and daddies putting copies of the legislation’s failure on their fridges.
