Despite weeks of anticipation, critics are in widespread agreement that the season eight premier of Game of Thrones was not very funny.
Television critics in multiple outlets said Sunday night that the episode was “short on chuckles” and lacking the kind of slapstick humor that made the show popular. Several critics were also in agreement that Jon Snow’s character has gotten less and less funny each season, comparing it to George Costanza in the final two seasons of Seinfeld after Larry David left the program.
Many of the shows fans said on social media Sunday that they’re still hopeful the season can provide laughs in future episodes.
