While CNN was pleased overall with how its five Democratic presidential town halls went, early reports indicate the network lost its ratings war with its biggest competitor, the 10 p.m. Seinfeld rerun on local CW affiliates.

About 800,000 people tuned into each CNN town hall, while roughly 1.2 million watched “The Puffy Shirt” episode of Seinfeld at the same time. Some CNN executives are hopeful, though, that the gap might continue to narrow with their competitors Fox News, MSNBC and Seinfeld.

CNN reran the town hall at midnight, in which it went up against reruns of The King of Queens and Two and a Half Men. CNN lost both those battles as well.
