Presidential candidate Joe Biden veered off a foreign policy speech at a campaign stop in Waterloo, Iowa this weekend to recount a tale of an encounter with Cap’n Crunch in the 1940s, much to the crowd’s confusion.

“The Cap’n and his buddy Toucan Sam came up to me and my boys Snap, Crackle and Pop,” Biden said, getting off the topic of the war in Afghanistan. “And I said ‘don’t come after me lucky charms’ and they said ‘well they’re magically delicious’ and I said ‘just crunchatize me, Cap’n.'”

The crowd – which began the day enthusiastic to hear from the former vice president – quickly became perplexed. After an hour and 45 minutes of his stump speech, some of the crowd began to leave dismayed.

Biden still leads most Democratic primary polls.
