Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot announced Tuesday that the city’s new speed cameras will take innovative measures to promote safety, exploding once a driver goes 2 mph over the limit.

The explosions will likely cut down on drivers slightly speeding, as many drivers will be destroyed and not able to speed again. In addition, fines will be sent to the drivers’ surviving families.

“Drivers can choose whether or not they want to speed,” Lightfoot said. “We hope this will deter them. Or it won’t and they will no longer exist and we’ll seize your assets. The choice is really yours.”

The city is also testing red light cameras attached to trap doors in the street.
