While many businesses are applauded for their efforts in creating masks and hand sanitizer products amid the COVID-19 crisis, one organization is still considered the leader in pandemic safety: Antifa.
The fascist anti-fascist groups have been wearing protective masks and bandanas for years to protect against diseases like coronavirus, a common misunderstanding, they say.
“I think people felt like we wore bandanas to look tough or what have you,” a spokesman said in a tweet thread, “but it was always about safety. Maybe it’s the violent protests, but people seem to think we don’t care about safety.”
Antifa also said they’ve been sure to wash their hands before any protest or riot. The Velvet Hamster applauds their practices.
