A local journalist is putting his best foot forward to restore faith in the press by making it a priority to always wear a newspaper hat.

Sam Pendleton, the obits and small business reporter for the Mukwonago Bee Times Gazette, said he finds it disheartening to see so many in his community lose faith in their local press and he wanted to improve the paper’s image.

“A free press is vital to a functioning democracy,” Pendleton said as he folded last week’s Sunday edition into a hat. “That’s why we need our community to understand we are not the enemy of the people, and that they should subscribe for just $8.95 a month.”

The paper has not yet seen an uptick in subscribers, but Pendleton is convinced they will once people realize how important the paper is and how wrong they are for not seeing it sooner.
