Residents watching a local Memorial Day parade today were disappointed to see very few War of 1812 veterans participating, with some counting as few as 5-10.

This continues a trend many have witnessed in recent years at parades throughout the country. Some have even said – shockingly – there were no 1812 vets at certain parades this year. Though the Hamster can not pin this entirely on more and more 1812 veterans passing away in recent years, most in Veterans Affairs agree that is a contributing factor to their lack of representation on Memorial Day.

Thankfully, Mexican-American War veterans still showed up to the day’s festivities in large numbers.
