CNN anchor Anderson Cooper was enraged Monday night after a passerby called him “Tom Hagen,” which Cooper called a known Irish slur.

“That’s on par with the n-word for Irish people,” Cooper shouted back. “Or like calling an Italian person ‘Fredo.'”

Cooper then threatened to attack the man, with the entire altercation captured on camera. CNN issued a statement saying it stands by Cooper as he was just defending himself against an ethnic slur.
