Pitchers and catchers across Major League Baseball reported to Spring Training today, where the Pittsburgh Pirates were then mathematically eliminated from postseason play.

The Pirates – in a rebuilding year – were not expected to contend this season. But as they got out of the gate a little sluggish today, they quickly lost any chance at playing in the playoffs. With 162 games and an entire Spring Training schedule left, the Pirates will instead use the time to see who might crack the roster for 2022.

With a loss in an intrasquad game this weekend, the Baltimore Orioles could soon join the Pirates as the next team eliminated.
