An employee at a local banking software company is hoping he can take a day or two of PTO next year, after stockpiling days for the last seven years.

Mike Brandster, 29, each year has told himself he will keep rolling over some PTO waiting for the right time to use it. While many of his coworkers have taken long, lavish vacations he is not yet comfortable disconnecting for that long, but is hopeful he will be able to take a relaxing day in 2022.

“I’ve just been busy,” Brandster said. “Lot of emails piling up. Zooms. End of the month, ya know. I think next year I can probably take a day or two, though, or at least an afternoon. I’ve earned it.”

Brandster has pushed through on not using sick days also, though he infected his entire office with COVID-19.
