Just days after the series finale of Game of Thrones, George R.R. Martin, the creator of the story and author of the books on which they were based, has been unmasked as the mastermind behind the show’s harshest social media critics.

An investigation of the accounts most savagely trolling the show’s hashtags in its stunningly terrible final season showed that the IP addresses all went back to addresses Martin paid for. Some were private residences, some were businesses set up as troll farms with the seemingly sole purpose of destroying the psyche of the show’s writers who took over from Martin to write the saga’s disappointing end.

Martin appears to have hired an entire creative team to flood the internet with shareable one-liners and memes that would bring the writers to despair.

In a statement to the press, Martin simply said “you know why.”
