A new poll asking voters across the political spectrum their views on a range of topics revealed most people would first like to know which side is responsible for making the thing shitty or good before weighing in.

From the economy to health care to foreign policy and more, Republicans and Democrats alike first need to know who made the thing what it is before saying if they agree.

“It’s tough,” one respondent said. “For example, take mass surveillance. I thought it was out of control from 2001-2009. But then from 2009-2016 I think it really did keep us safe. And now I am terrified of it again. Plus Russia.”

“These things aren’t always black and white.”

Once given the critical information of who is to blame or thank was given, respondents answered all the questions.
